Our arrogance saved us from making a costly mistake.

I regard it as a serious problem the USA doesn't have a 5000" tank.

After the Chauchat, Burger would into any excuse to avoid French hardware.

I thought everybody wanted a cool-looking self-intersecting-open-banana-mag design that jammed all the time.

Fuck it just build the thing in inches, no conversion, that way = HUGE FUCKING TANK!

If you're gonna do something wrong, might as well do it on an interplanetary scale. Oh conversions...

It'd be almost 4 times this design, terrifying http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landkreuz…

If it "actually happened", would you care to explain how the US built 950 M1917 aka "Renault FT-17 adapted for imperial machinery" ? Oh, and they also brought back about 200 of the original from France after the war.

I had a similar thought.

Then I realized the implications of that...we need to contract with SHIELD.

Lol.

Try living in a country with metric and imperial.

Exactly. Of course "land-based aircraft carrier" doesn't have quite the same ring as "tank", but why not have an amphibious assault ship that's amphibious? That's big enough to field Harriers, certainly - LCS eat your heart out.

It wouldn't work. Nothing built in inches works, it is all crap. That is why Americans import everything in hidden metric.

That was 60 years ago. Things are different now. Imperial or USC machinery is obsolete as are imperial/USC fasteners. The costs to convert to non-metric, build and maintain non-metric is through the roof. Today it is either metric all the way or bankruptcy.

There is no such thing as French hardware. French industry builds to international standards. It is the same hardware specified and used in every country of the world, including the USA.
